Little Old ladies Cast PhotoSheffield, Ala.—The Tennessee Valley Art Association’s (TVAA) Center Stage theatre company presents Little Old Ladies in Tennis Shoes on Thursday, September 4 and Friday, September 5. Curtain time each evening is 7:35 p.m. The box office opens at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $12.50 for adults and $8.00 for students; available for purchase through the TVAA at 256-383-0533 tvaa.net.

A comedy by Sandra Fenichel Asher, the Center Stage production is directed by Elise Gilchrist, starring Frances Cohenour, Garyson Campbell, Liz Moore, Anna Gibson, Barb Hendricks, Sara Biddle, Jane Bemauer and Michael Hill.

About the show: Kate Corrigan has her life in order, or so she likes to think. She has a lucrative job, a no strings-attached man, and a new house in the suburbs. Kate develops a roller-coaster friendship with Molly, Molly’s grandson, and a number of elderly women who live in the neighborhood. She soon comes to realize these women are living in quirky isolation after outliving their husbands’ and their families’ need for them. Confronted with old fears and new choices, Kate realizes the life she is living is the very one she has been running from. “A sensitive comedy about friendship between generations,” said the Stanford Mail. “Full of wit and laughter…warmth and wisdom,” echoed the Sierra Madre News. “L’chaim!” say Kate and Molly.

Center Stage community theatre company was created by the TVAA in 1981. First performing in the Mary Brown Gallery at the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art (TVMA) in Tuscumbia, all productions have since relocated to the historic Ritz Theatre in downtown Sheffield. Its inaugural production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy You Can’t Take It With You initiated a theatre arts program that continues to produce and celebrate performing arts today.
